Nobody giving up 500 bucks is going to be cheerful but he did the right thing.

I bought a Used transmission from ASAP Motors in Texas last year. It wasn't cheap (800.00 with freight), but they were very good to deal with. They sent the wrong one the first time, but took it back and paid freight both ways until I was satisfied.

Of course, it could blow at anyu moment, being used, but at least they did their job. All I expect.

Well that's the thing that I am most worried about is, if it blows will who ever stand behind there warranty?? Also are they being honest about the condition of the trans??? I know that this is one of those could, would, should storys...
But still, thanks for all your input..

Unless you can steal a used transmission for $250. or so, I cannot see the logic of purchasing one. It's a device that can function perfectly well today (we tested it ) and then fail completely tomorrow.

I believe that a person on this thread suffered the exact same fate.

Why would you want to go through what he went through.........purchased a used transmission (just happened to be installed in an '83 SD at the time) and it lasted about 500 miles.

The only reason to do that is to sell the car within the next year. Otherwise, find a quality rebuilt and, hopefully, it will give you 100K miles.

I would never mess with a used trans, unless I was trying to sell the car. I yanked the trans out of my W126 once to fix a leak, and will probably have to do it again. Its not my idea of fun, I'd prefer not to make a habit of it.

Its actualy amazingly simple and quick to do though.

Has anyone here ever actually seen a "Transmission Dyno" at a salvage yard? I haven't nor have I ever seen an engine dyno at a salvage yard. Most cars brought into a salvage yard have either been wrecked, or have mechanical problem and not worth fixing. If the car is in good enough shape to start and drive then the car is repaired and sold. Maybe in other parts of the country there are such places with very expensive equipment to test used parts but around here they just give you another part if the one you get is bad.
