I may be in trouble!!!

I have what appear to be droplets of oil that are collecting on my bumper and back of the car which I assume is coming out of the tail pipe. I just had the car in the shop because the injection pump was messed up and it was running to rich. I checked the oil last week and it was fine. 1900 miles and it had not used any oil. Now it was down a quart and I noticed it on the back of the car. Any ideas?

Oh heck, Im no 'expert' on the 350, as they wern't imported to the U.K, but apparently, they do have a habit of bending con-rods, which cause excessive wear and oil consumption...

there have been many posts on the 350 engine, Worth doing a search for 350, and or 'rod-bender'

Are the drops only on the back of the car, none under the engine?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the infamous rod-bender syndrome.

I had that problem once. It turned out that I had left a container of oil in my trunk and it had spilled out and leaked through the drain in the wheel well.

No such luck, no oil container in the trunk. I thought the rod bending issues crept up on you. Not all once.

If you're lucky, the leak up front you mentioned is the problem, could be the oil cooler or oil cooler lines.

What about the oil on the back of the car? That would be great. I have noticed if I park it going down a hill, it will drop a small drop of oil, never tracked it down.

I think you might be right, it would be smoking if I was blowing that much oil out don't you think? Which it is not smoking now he has fixed the injection pump.

I left the oil cap off after an oil change on my TE years ago, made a mess of the engine compartment and pans below, took several washings before the back of the wagon didn't get little dark spots where the oil collected dust.

I checked the inside of the tailpipes and they seem to be wet..but there were droplets on top of the pipes also. I think I might be doomed. I washed it off and drove it several miles and came back and the droplets were back. If I had this much blow by all at once shouldn't it be smoking?

you sure it is motor oil and not tranny or rear end lube or fuel?

i have had this happen several times and it was one of those things. (not with benzes i don't think though).

Is that a hydro-pneumatic / SLS suspension?
