Adjusted ALDA - Now car keeps running
Hey, I have been lurking for a while here and reading old posts. I already replaced my fully clogged boost lines to the ALDA on my 1987 300SDL. This gave me quite a bit of performance and probably cut my 0-60 in half...literally. Today I decided to adjust the ALDA because the car is a dog until boost hits and it takes off. Now it pulls really hard but when I went to shut it off it didn't shut off. I got out and used the red stop lever, but don't want to have a ghetto car where I have to keep doing that.
When adjusting the alda my wrench slipped and I heard a crack. I believe it cracked the black piece that is on the engine side of the injection pump and on the radiator side of the ALDA...what does this piece do? Where should I start in order to begin solving this problem? Thanks for all of the help! |

You either broke the line the goes to the ignition (not in the area of the ALDA) or you snapped the plastic line that returns from the ignition and connects to the injection pump. I don't know where it connects but somebody here does.
I've broken the line that goes to the ignition and it caused the symptom you describe, I just trimmed it back a little bit and added a new section of vacuum line to re-connect the lines. Take a look a little closer and see if you can do that. If you don't have some already, go to the auto store and grab some flexible vacuum line material. They usually sell it in a roll, I always keep some extra in my glovebox for those little emergencies.

You knocked off a vacuum line somewhere near the ALDA.

Hopefully it is something simple. I didn't want to start messing with it as it was starting to get dark and I had a few other things to do. I already have a few feet of vaccum line.
Any easy way to check if it is vaccum line or the ignition cutoff? |

The ignition cutoff is a vacuum line, but there are various other vacuum lines that could have been dislodged. Before you do anything else, just take a good look around for any disconnected lines.

That's happened to me a few times before.
Check your vacuum shutoff connection hose. It probably got knocked off. |

make sure you dont get them switched like i did.... it would sometimes shut off and sometimes it wouldnt so then after a new shutoff valve and new tubing i decided that i would be retarded and switch the lines and if it didnt work i wouldnt cry or anything.... so i ddi it and lo and behold it was the whole problem...

So did you get this figured out? The 87 SDL has the 603 right? There's a single plastic vacuum line (brown IIRC) that connect to a rubber line that connects to the shutoff valve, that needs to be connected
