By the by, the parts department of this particular dealership knows me very well ... they said I'm the only person who's ever come in and known their VIN off the top of their head. They seem to appreciate my weird love for my old car (well, I guess it =$ for them) ... don't know if the service folk would be the same. Only thing I can say is there ARE a lot of older Benzes in the employee parking area ... a W115 240D, a 123 wagon, at least three 201s (2 diesels, one gasser), and a few 124s of various vintages. Oh, and one service guy has a unimog.

This is MB of Wilmington, in Delaware. Pretty nice dealership. My dad bought my 300D there in 1987 when it was Royal Imports ... later it was Wilmington Motorcars. Always sold Benzes. I think he bought the 240 there, too, but not sure.

I was just getting ready to ask if it was MB of Wilmington...... I wouldn't be afraid to take them up on a free inspection.... Very nice folks there....... I've dealt with them before on the phone..... (they quoted me a price almost half of my local dealer for a key for my car..... Tried to get my local dealer to match and they wouldn't, and I couldn't order through MB of Wilmington cause you gotta get the key in person.... But very nice folks anyhow.)

Thumbs up I like clinics

If I were you I would ignor the jaded opinions and Go for it!

Typically, a good business does everything it can do to drum up excitement thru events of some sort in order to bring in traffic, period. I look for my Mercedes dealers' maintenance clinic at least once a year. I'm there if I'm breathing cause it is a great opportunity to get inspections by a new set of eyes and I value their expertise...I rarely elect for their execution of some or even any of their suggested maintenance unless it is an absolute necessity or something I choose not to do by myself...

The objective is to get bodies on the lot, in the door, to meet and greet, advise/plan maintenance for your ride, maybe sell some parts or service, and perhaps plant a few seeds about buying your next one from the gleaming selection up front!

The price is right and they usually always have goooood coffee, cold softdrinks and I am always surprised by the depth of the results. At least I can be confidant that I come away much better informed about how ol Pearl is doing and the things I should be on the lookout for later on.

Tri-Star is running their clinic this year over a couple of weeks so there should be plenty of opportunities to get scheduled.

I would like to see what they say about the crack you have on the rear frame {can't remember exactly where it was. Diff mount??}
I think most of us could read over a list of what they found wrong with our cars and still sleep at night. Remember, there is a difference between "maintaining" a car, and having one that is new, or has all new parts. Those new parts immediately start to age, which gets us back to the "maintaning" thing.
My curiosity over what they would find would trump my apprehension over what they would find. After all, they are trying to generate revenue, either through service work, or a new car sale, and there isn't anything wrong with that. Good business. They know that a limited few will get something of value (the inspection) without returning any of that value back to them, but advertising doesn't bring in every single customer who sees it.
Get the inspection. You have to be 100% more curious than the rest of us, and we want to know how Bondhi is doing too.......

I kind of giggled to myself at the thought of yall towing in the 240 for it's inspection.....

I went last year with my "newly" acquired 99 C230. They sent me a free inspect paper to take it in months after I got it. I was a bit hesitant but curious at the same time...plus the free car wash made me want to go bring it aswell.

No issues whatsoever, wasnt a scam nothing. They represented to me 2 minor issues and gave me a choice to fix them whenever or if I wanted to and I was off.

Whose rear are you referring to?

Surely you don't mean my 240D which is as sound as the day I bought her new...

I once took my '59 220SE to the local dealership for an alignment, and they couldn't figure out how to work the column shift. They kept putting it in third or second gear and then slipped the clutch, I could hear them because the waiting room wall was paper thin. I walked outside and calmly told them to leave the car be. The service writer then got an attitude, and told me I wasn't allowed to talk to the technicians and that I should go back inside and have some free coffee and doughnuts while they worked on my car.

I ended up buying a toe gauge from Eastwood, and did the alignment myself.

Nope, he's talking about my 87 ... I have a small crack on the rear subframe just in front of the diff. My indy looked at it and said it had been there for a long time, no worries, but when I go to change the bushings I could have a piece of sheet medal welded behind it to provide extra fortification. He said it ain't going anywhere, though. Dealership maybe would say it's done, trade it in for a BLUETEC, immediately.
