Nitrous Diesel???

Has anybody wondered if Nitrous Oxide injection will boost power output in a diesel? Anybody tried it? Just curious.

i don't know if anyone on here has put nitrous in their car. but i do know that with nitrous you should provide more fuel too. nitrous increases the available oxygen for combustion and if you don't add fuel to the mix you are just injecting more oxygen.

a simpler route would be to increase the boost and adjust the alda or pump. but you should have all the monitering exuipment on the car vefore adjusting or nitrous.

Forced will probably chime in on this he is more knowledgeable.

N.d. ?

If Mauri (and the Finns) haven't tried it,
Why do you suppose not?
If Ether is BAD for pre-chamber,glow plug compression motors...N.O. would be
BAD in multiples.

Nitrous ahs been done. Even in combo with propane. Both are NO NO's on IDI as you can have combustion in the precombustion chamber. I know a cpl ppl on here have done it for ****s n giggles on the IDI but no daily runners. There is one dude with a 87 wagon on here with propane says he can beat everything in town more or less.

Nitrous for a 22:1 compression motor.??

Learn something new everyday!

And do they retard the injection timing with the oxidizer in the system? Or dont they.?

We live in tractor pulling country and none of the diesel pullers use n.o. Must be a reason or they would be doing it!

Cheers,

Bill

Tractor pullers do not use it because it is against the rules. Tractor pullers have a long list of rules to follow for any given class, and nitrous is not allowed in any I have seen. It is a MAJOR kick in power on a diesel setup to run nitrous.

It is, however, allowed in drag racing and most of the diesel pickups running 10 seconds in the quarter are running it.

I do not know about running with IDI, so I can not answer that.

I have seen quite abit of the larger trucks running nitros with success. I highly recommend the magazine Diesel Power. It has a lot of diesel upgrades. The upgrades are mostly for trucks but they are cool to look at.

Nitrous and Diesels:

Great for power production. You dont need to add more fuel to run it. Although more fuel will certainly help the power. In cylinder temps can get out of hand with too much.

I have worked on combinations that gain over 200 HP, even when they had a clean tailpipe @ WOT under load and full boost.

Nitrous on an IDI MB would best be applied for off the line (pre-boost) power until the turbo has spooled up.
