I am curious what the weight of the 280 gasser motor and the various V8s from the early '80 are too.

(what...??? would I be thinking of putting a diesel in an SL??? )

603 w/o alternator and ac compressor, just under 500 lbs. With manifolds, turbo, and everything else.

that is interesting. extra cylinder, and it's still lighter. I bet that has a lot to do with the "power" of the 87 300D...

the gas sixes are lighter than the diesels and i wouldn't be surprised if the aluminum v8 are lighter than the sixes.

there was a list of engine weights posted a few months ago.

I haven't been able to find that posting with the search engine yet. Do you have the link?

I think I can infer that the 380 V8 weighs 30 pounds less than the 617 since an '85 380SE weighs 3740 pounds and a '85 300SD weighs 3770 pounds.

FYI, the same year 380SL weighs 3685 pounds.
