I dudes,

I want to put a ignition start button in my w124 200D, anyone knows how much current (Amps) does the ignition "pulls" from the battery? I have to know so that i buy a suitable relay!

To lazy to measure it...

1985 200D (w124) and totaled 190D

just get a starter relay... it will be overkill, since you have a starter with a selanoid built in, but it will work, and it will last forever.

Im sure this isnt the recomended practice, but I rigged up a start button by jumpering the +12V to the starter solinoid on the passenger side fenderwell,

it worked great for 2 years. then i sold the car.

I just used a small push button, it doesnt handle much amperage.

Am I missing something? What's the purpose when you have a key and ignition switch?

I think he means a switch simply to activate the starter.

I've thought about doing this myself, but I figured it would look too corny.

But why would you want a button to activate the starter? You turn the key to the run position and then turn it just a little more and there you go.

Worn key switch contacts, theft damage, custom look, etc.

There are plenty of reasons one might want a push button starter switch.

That's what I don't get. He would still need to turn the key on and off, so it doesn't seem like he would gain anything.

It would be a nice feature to have. One could bump the engine over to adjust the valves, prime the oil pressure after an oil change... without starting the engine.
