Another manual transmission question

Quick question
which manual transmissions (which will fit the om617 engine) had too parts, a bell housing and transmission rather then a unibody?

I guess my question should be stated “what bell housing will bolt on to the om617?”

And out of curiosity about the flywheel? Do I have to order from Europe? Or will the 616 flywheel work on the bigger 617?

Thanks Matt

Im running a flywheel from a 200D on my 617.952. You will want the starter bump to be on the left hand side. 115-123 models should fit. If the transmission comes with an adapter plate you may find its necessary to keep. The big problem is the 300D driveshaft with the balancer.

Any transmission that was bolted to an OM615, OM616, OM617 or M110 will work on an OM617.

Any of the OM615, OM616, OM617 or M110 flywheels will work with an OM617 but they must be match balanced to the original flywheel.

the bell housing may be integral as on the later models or separate.

many of the flywheels are neutral balanced but you cannot be sure. mark the position before removing the flywheel from the crank you will be using. have it checked for balance. if it is neutral then your job is easier, you just need a neutral balanced fw. if it is not neutrally balanced, then you must have the new fw matched to it. it seems like maybe 70 to 80% of the fws turn out to be neutral.

in my personal experience i have found three that were neutral and one that was not.

if it is not you will have a big problem if you put on that is not matched to your crank.

so which models or years had a separate bell housing ? anybody have a picture? or maybe one for sale?

I'm interested because i want to use the engine in a different application (since i have one to spare) but need a bell housing and flywheel that will mate easily to the block with consideration for the location of the starter on the 617 and he bump on the bell housing of course.
