617 Power!

I went the the junkyard today to grab some parts, and decided to take the long way around the I-285 loop on the way back.. I run into this Honda with a 3in exhaust and maybe a body kit.. I pass the guy going approx 80-85mph, he was going probably around 70.. He decided to pass me super fast, I floored it, so did he.. As we both approach somewhere around 100mph, I hear his engine cut out, come back, cut out, etc.. The governor! I zoom off, still accelerating.. Gotta love the all-mechanical 617

Somebody also raced me a few months back in his old Honda hatch (early 90's) on the freeway. I just passed him with my AC blowing full blast.

Even an old 90's Accord tried to race me as he entered the street from a parking lot (and cut me off in the process) so I swerved and proceeded to pass him, which he tried preventing, but in the end he inhaled my smoke.

Worst part is, the guys girlfriend was with him.. How do you explain having a souped up car, and being beaten by an 81 Mercedes sedan?.. Embarrassing...

I was able to pull on two cars on the highway with the SDL, a 4cy Honda Accord, and a BMW 318. But the 318 is a gutless POS so yeah its not like an M3 or anything special.

The Honda was interesting because it was an actual race. We lined up, did the three horn blast thing and punched it. Off the line it would eat the SDL for lunch because of gearing. But over 70 the situation was reversed because of that gearing and the torque advantage the 603 provided. The 4cy engine in the late 90's Accords have no torque and are not realy geared to travel over 70mph or so. So if you keep your foot in it after 70 you will pull on one, the gap widens over 100. But the SDL also starts to run out of steam at 105ish.

Never race a new V6 powered Accord, they are fast, you need at least a 560SEL to have a chance.

I test drove an SL500 the other day because my uncle wants a summer car, so he enlisted me to help because I'm the "expert". Having 300+hp is nice, 80 feels like a slow cruise. Heck I think you can carry 4th gear until 120mph.

my friend just rebuilt his honda with high compression pistons, a different cam, an electric turbo, different intake etc etc and now he has about 300 HP... I don't want to race him.... and those parts are so cheap! all we can do is remove alda, put an intercooler on it and insert some propane..
then again, in a crash we survive

Oh I remember those, people are still messing with them? I was laughing because I remember a few years back some guy had a good business selling them on ebay. He would take a cheap Rule blower and double the price advertising it as a turbo. Those things have no power, they are just ment to move a large volume of air, through a few feet of dryer hose. They can't build pressure or anything.

They are made for suckers.

It definitely sounded like a governor, sounded exactly like my friends car when it hits it...

Yeah most modern vehicals have a govener. Most SUV's and large trucks are cut off at 105-110ish because of the tires. Some of the large diesel ones are 95. If you ever want to piss one off thats in a hurry remember that...

Gotta love the gearing of these cars. It's all in the factory brochures, that these cars were meant for acceleration, even at high speed.

Have they broken through the 500 hp barrier yet?

The highest dyno chart pic I've seen posted on mersuforum.net is one of a 190D with an OM603 (not OM606) churning out 482 hp screaming at 5700 rpm. The fact it produces this power at that rpm with plain diesel fuel is just unbelievable.

EDIT: (I bet that blue W124 with the OM606 is close, perhaps even has greater power)
