when does the aux fan come on

My 82' 300d temp runs about 90 -95C, I guess this is normal. So my question is , when does the aux fan come on? When the ac is on or is there a temp. switch in the radiator?

The aux fan comes on when freon temps in the dryer reach a certain level. It cycles with the temp fluxuations.

Exclamation I am unsure if this pertains to all cars, but.....

There are 2 temperature activated switches that operate the Auxiliary Fan.....

Temperature Switch 100*C in Thermostat Housing for Auxiliary Fan

Temperature Switch 62*C in Receiver Drier for Auxiliary Fan

Either of these should turn on the Auxiliary Fan, independent of each other....

Did I read an old post of yours? - something about the thermostat/coolant temp switch being available in 90* or 95* as well?

Because most keyboards do not have the º symbol. I have to use ALT0186 to make it come up. The * is easier, or use number w/C or F.

Boy, my fans just came on for the first time today. HOLY COW! You can hear them a mile away! didnt like how they came on. off.on. off. Suspect the temp switch is hosed, or is that normal for an MBz, quick cycling that is?

I was able to buy a thermoswitch for the thermostat housing that lets it open at 80-85 deg C but haven't had a chance to install it yet. Part number is:

0055457024 single prong, Behr
0065451524 double prong, Behr

Both 80-85 degree switches. I think the original thermostat housing sensor is set to 100 deg C.

I think Shoebilly and I discussed this one some time ago. I knew there was another switch in there somewhere!

Cool More like lazy....

I use the asterisk in place of the degree symbol because I am too lazy to fool around with the character map......

So I found a bad connection in the AC circuit, and now the AC works flawlessly ( thank God ! didnt want to tear a dash apart right now!), BUUUUTTT those fans... they'll "fire up" when I'm starting the car!

Car is in the garage for the pre glow harness replace, and I see the temp plug on the thermo housing is part of the harness. Hoping that the new harness takes care of it, but if not.... will have to dig into this circuit more.

It like I think I'm going to can the Hirschmann antenna ( that I rebuilt) in favor of a fixed mast one, so I dont have to remember to turn the radio off, so my battery is doing nothing but glowing plugs and cranking over a 22:1 motor on startup! Not running uneeded fans or raising masts.
