Head Removal ...at the junk yard.

A week ago I finally found the holy grail at a junk yard. A nice condition w123 wagon. I quickly took most of the trim and piede specific of wagon to rapair mine (particularly that back gate!!!)... and pondered about how to remove the head of that baby.
Assuming that the head is good, should i even bother taking that head (specific of the turbo wagon 617)? Any suggestion or pitfalls to avoid?

if it's at a pullapart, you may be able to borrow one of their cranes to aid in removal. if not, take everything off the head first to make it easier to lift. them things are not light.
how good is the car? can you get the whole thing?
I would pull the injectors (carefull, pop the wrench, don't steady pull, or the PC Rings may come out) and see if you see any rust on the injectors. rust = water in the head... possible cracked head. remote on the 617, but not impossible.

Wagon heads have the SLS pump mounting points

The wagon head is different than the sedans and coupes in the US because it has the mounting points for the SLS pump. I have heard of 617 heads cracking but I think it comes from severe overheating. I guess if you can get it cheap enough it would be worth having.

I believe youre thinking of aluminum 603 heads cracking, not the cast iron 617 heads.

Hey Armondo, any chance you got the SLS pump from the head? I could use one it you don't need it.
What color interior?
I'll ask you about it tomorrow if you're at Dan's.

If you pull the SLS valve, you'll make a friend here somewhere.
