Front end suspension parts 300D - what needs replacing?
I have a 1983 300D that I plan on replacing some of the front end suspension and steering parts. I have already replaced all the tie rods and shocks. So now I was looking to replace the upper control arms but after reading some posts in here I am thinking I should replace whatever worn parts I might have.
Can someone give me an idea of what all I should look at replacing since I plan to order the upper control arms anyways? Thanks |

Rotate driver spring to passenger side and vice versa
to even out the sag

ForcedInduction thanks for the extra info. The ball joints that you mention where are those on the car? Are these the ones that are part of the lower control arms?
Also I have seen people mention in other posts about also replacing the sway bar bushings. Should I do this as well and if so can someone provide me a link to that part? Because I am not seeing it. Last edited by rustyf7; 05-14-2007 at 09:00 AM. |

i will be ordering those parts too, and need to know how many ball joints i need for the upper and how many for the lower. i will probably have the lowers done with a dealer. what about all the bushings and drag link.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have completed my repairs. I replaced the upper control arms, lower control arm ball joints, steering dampner, and rebuilt the idler control arm. Tonight I am going to replace the motor mounts.
I did the passenger side first and it took a while but after that I did the driver side around 1 hour. My biggest help is that fact that my dad has a large shop building with lots of tools at my disposal. Not to mention a few years ago a service station went out of business and the mechanic sold my dad his hydraulic floor lift. We installed it in his shop so I am able to lift the old 300D in the air so I can walk under it standing up. This made the job much easier. To all of those considering replacing these parts.....good luck. But if your upper control arms and lower contol arm bushings are anything like mine were they definately need to be replaced. |
