You'll need an exhaust/intake manifold gasket and any studs that you mangle on the way off.

I replaced the starter on principle........it's a 30 minute job without the manifolds in place.

Yep, the block heater is an order of magnitude easier without the manifolds present.

You ought to get a reading on boost before you remove the manifolds/turbo combination. Adjusting the wastegate is a pleasure if you do it on a bench.
Thanks Brian and others for the information. I knew there had to be other things I should fix while in that area.

On the starter - all I see on this site and others are reman units. Are those OK?

Thanks again!

A Bosch reman is about the best you can achieve.

At least I'll be able to remove all of the vacuum junk that lives under the air cleaner. I plan to label the lines and pull as a unit as much as possible, in case the stuff ever has to be re-installed. The vacuum controls really crowd the passenger side headlight assembly (I have Euro lights) and I'd like better access in that area.

Hi Brian,

Just got the kit yesterday. Thanks. Has everything I need, gasket, sealer etc.

I think I will tap the plate for a pressure gauge and bead blast it to make it look "older" before I put it on.

Is this application appropriate for Cali emissions vehicles? I am not a Cali resident, so no under-hood inspections.

I bought a kit for my '85 (like yours). Brian says the copper disk in the kit, used to seal off the exit from the cat ox, may not fit. (I haven't tried yet.) Even if you have to do some modifying, the kit can be made to work.

There are no inspections of diesel cars at all in California, by the way.

Jeremy, LMK how you make out with that copper disc on the cat ox outlet. Nodody has confirmed if it fits or not..........

You don't really need to tap the blockoff plate- there is a factory tapped hole in the intake manifold that sometimes fits with the installation hardware that comes with most boost pressure guages. Look for an allen plug at the back of the intake manifold where the ALDA banjo bolt is located.

Yea, but with a fitting and hose on it it will look like it is supposed to be there.

I might put an intake air temperature sensor there.

Maybe this is your problem as well?
Was that me you sold it to? If so it made 15 psi for only a few days, and now is back to 9 psi max. It will only reach 11 psi if I totally disconnect the wastegate hose.
