vibration from 97 300d 5 speed

I have a 5 speed auto, and when I push it over to 'D', I get an occasional metallic-sounding vibration that I can hear in the cabin and feel through the shift lever. Holding tight to the lever or even pushing it to the stops doesn't seem to affect the vibration. If I move it to 'sporty' (4), it still vibrates a little at times but not as much. I suppose something is loose in the linkage; anyone encounter this? It's my wife's car, and she hates rattles and squeaks.

BTW, what's the deal with the idea of a 'sealed' transmission?

Shifter linkage bushing. Common problem on 722.608's. Req's small hands or 10" needle nose pliers to get to up high on side of trans.

See #27 on detail. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=210225&M=606%2E962&GA=722%2E608&CT=GA&cat=23V&SID=27&SGR=095&SGN=09

You can find it under buy parts link above.

The sealed trans should have its "filled for life" fluid changed every 60K or so using 722.6 or 722.9 MB fluids ONLY. Turns out that MB's def of 'life" was approx the duration of a typical lease......
