need help with headlight problem

just got an '82 300sd....it seems that the lights are stuck in highbeam. the pushing the stalk forward will not switch them out of highbeam. (trying to flash them doesn't do anything either. I also noticed the fog light don't work when pulling out the headlight dial. (I pulled the highbeam fuses to see if that made any difference but obviously just left me with no lights at all)
I checked fuses....everything is good!
Is their a relay I can check??? i don't have a diagram of the relays in the fuse box, so i have no idea which one would be for headlights, if there is one.
any suggestions would be much appreciated,
thanks,
-Justin

sounds like a bad stalk to me.
fogs don't work when in high beam mode.
I will check fuse# tonight if you don't have it yet.

The combination switch is shot. Eventually they'll get stuck on high beam. The SD is very close to the same issue.

The stalk that has the lights, turn signals, and washer is called the "combination switch".

It's a bit of work to change it because the steering wheel and the cluster must be removed.

Pull out fuses 2 and 4.

Add a 12V jumper to fuses 6 and 8 when you want low beams.

Not the most elegant solution, but, it'll work temporarily.
