Installed Euro's on my 124 today, can't wait for dark!

I got them on Ebay, about $225 shipped. They are Depo's. I was worried about the installation, didn't know how hard it would be. Was worried most about the wiring. Fortunatly installation went without a hitch. Very straightforward. Left light (first) took about 45 min. with my inexperienced hands. The second only about 20. So in a little over an hour I had my euro's in However, I did NOT include the wiper mechanism. I think anyone on this forum could do the swap. My kit did not come with bulbs or the 6 pin connectors. I had bulbs (Hella H4 100/55 watt HL's, used the bulbs from the old lights for the fogs). I got the 6 pin connector from forum member Limited Edition ($6 can't beat it). The wiring was simple, just transferred the pins from the old 4 pin plug to the new 6 pin. No cutting or crimping or soldering required. I found the instructions for the pin locations with a search. Now I can't wait for dark so I can try them out. I'm sure they will need to be aimed, but that should not be a problem. If anyone has any questions I'll try to answer. These lights were for Fritz, my daily driver.

Have you tried adjusting them? Apparently there are screws you use inside those black knobs, but the idiots put some hard plastic coating on them so you can't grip them with a phillips!

Pics

pic #1 is of the two black plastic knobs, I believe adjust the headlights. Pic 2 is old headlights (on Loni) and pic 3 is the new euro's in Fritz. If these don't adjust the headlights what do they do? They look and turn like the ones on the originals.

Pics!

pic #1 is of the two black plastic knobs, that I believe adjust the headlights. I think the knob on the right is for the fog, the one on the left is for the up/down of the headlight and one out of frame to the left is for the left/right headlight adjustment. I'll know for sure in a few hours

If these don't adjust the headlights what do they do? They look and turn like the ones on the originals.

Pic 2 is old headlights (on Loni) and pic 3 is the new euro's on Fritz.

Well the results are in

WOW what a difference. They almost make reflective street signs to bright to read I drive a lot at night in deer infested country and these will make a difference in spotting them sooner. I figure the $200 cost is much cheaper than repairs from hitting a deer. What used to be the fogs, which are now considered driving lights make a significant difference in the illumination of the road directly in front of the car. I may need to aim them up a bit to improve illumination. I'll try to take some pics tonite.

Some tips on installation: Do the driver side first, you have more room to work and get familiar with the removal process. Pop out the turn signal first, there is a spring tab in behind it and it will just pop out when released, no screws. Remove the wiper next, just fold the arm out and remove the nut holding it to the shaft, unplug the washer fluid line. Next remove the trim piece under the light only two screws, one at each end. Now only three screws hold the light in, no need to remove the headlight or the trim panel around the front, the whole assembly will come out as one unit. Two screws under the turn signal and one on the other end. The spring clips/suts that these screws screw into must be removed from the old light frame and installed on the new one. They just slide off and snap on the new light, shouldn't take more than a minute. I removed the unit a few inches then unpluged the two power plugs, one four prong for the lights the other for the wiper. That's all there is to removing the light! Only difference with the passenger side is you have to remove the airbox first to gain access. Be sure you have your 6 pin socket for the wiring before you start. Wiring was simple. Pry the back off the plug that powered the lights, the one near the top of the light. Note the position/color of each wire in each socket in case you get lost. I followed the plug/pin placement I found here. Only your existing four wires go into the new 6 pin socket. There would be one more if you used the city light which I did not. Install your bulbs before mounting the lights as access is somewhat limited when in the car. Remember not to touch the glass of the bulb as it will shorten its life. Now plug in your new light and check for operation. If it works, finish mounting it and your done Well, almost, now your have to wait for dark to aim them. Mine (Depo brand) had black plastic knobs on the back for aiming. I have read some brands use phillips screws, I cannot tell you how to adjust these. Mine were aimed much too high, several turns of the knob brought them down to proper level. Left/right alignment was already OK.

From what I know they're still fog lights. Please do not aim them up and blind oncoming traffic. The glare can be dangerous to oncoming traffic.

Here is an excellent site for how to aim your headlights. Gives fantastic results when I've used it.
