16mm or 14mm
Anybody know off hand if the outer tie rod for an 82 300Dt is 14mm or 16mm. The tie rod end that attaches to the right side spindle. My guess is that the 16mm are the tie rods and the 14mm is for all the other ends drag link etc.

Not without crawling under the car. Seems that 14mm and 17mm are the size of choice by MB.

I actually only have seen one type of nut in the whole that is 14mm (valve and valve lock nuts) and have never, ever seen any 16mm bolt or nut in any mercedes.
It is either 13mm or 17mm. take you pick.

Going through this now. Just got new tires on the 240d, and the RF outer tie rod end had play. I asked them to replace it, and they ordered the part. The diameter is wrong.
Judging from my experiences on my 82 300cd, OE sizing was 16mm ( the ones I took off the cd were original and much more substantial than aftermarket parts), and replacements were 14mm to cut cost. You can get 16mm ends, but obviously the parts guy they called didn't get the right ones or ask the right questions. Lemfoerder seems to only sell 14mm ends. So, what do do... But a no-name 16mm end for $13, or buy a lemfoerder tie rod with both ends new, for $40, and go to the 14mm hardware? The 240d is a garage queen with 75k, so a lesser brand end might be OK, though I'd prefer lemfoerder or mb. Or do I just change over???

And for tie rods it is not a matter of the nut size, it is a matter to the thread/shaft size, which is indeed 16 and 14mm.
