Code P0380 on 98 E300TD

Just came in off the road and the CEL and glow light came on about 1/2 mile from home. Code reader says P0380 - glow plug / heater CKT A Malfunction.

Thought I was going to have a leisurely summer off! ...but I guess I'll be pulling the manifold again to replace a glow plug or two in the 98 E300TD.

What does the "CKT A" mean in the code description? Is it Circuit A?

Have a great 4th!

It is Circut A Malfunction.

Interesting that it came on while driving. That code is the ECU checking to see that the GPs are hot when start is attempted. If cold it triggers the CEL.

If a one time event it will clear itself after 3 hot/cold run cycles; usually 1-1/2 days if a daily driver.

Hows your K40 and your battery charge?

Terry......I cleared the code with the code reader and at least with the car warm, while starting or running the CEL and Malfunction alert has not come on again. The real test will be the cold start in the morning!

I am hoping it was just a fluke....the temp. and glow plug relay out of sinc or something because of the heat and high humidity. It was odd......

With that code I think it is always best to just leave it if there is no evident problem that needs addressing immediately. That way, if it stays lit more than 3 run cycles you know it was NOT a one time occurrence and that something needs attention and if it clears itself that it was an anomaly (most often operator error from turning key with no glow).

I would go to Autozone or someplace with a code scanner and clear the codes. That way you will know if it comes up again.
