1997 W210 E300D Sun Roof Not Functioning

My 1997 W210 E300D's Sun Roof is Not Functioning The only thing I can think of is I may have cut one of the wires while removing rusty metal underneath the right passenger rocker. I accidentally cut through the wire conduit striking several wires, but not cutting through them, just tearing the casing on them I am an electrical repair tech, there are so many wires in there, I found matching wires to the switch for all but 1 wire in the conduit (red on blue). What I need to know is, is there a relay for the power roof window under the hood and where is it located so I can trace down which wire is possibly bad using a continuity test... Thanks for any help... Indi

Thanks for all your responses...

Thanks! and yes I did do all the basic stuff IE check fuses.. One by one I stretched hard on each wire that was damaged to see if any were broken within the casing, finding none broken. I don't have a schematic, so I was wondering if there is a relay under the hood or somewhere that powers the roof motor that I can trace to and fro with a continuity test to see if any wires are actually bad.. Plus there is no actual fuse marked for the Sun roof It must be part of another fuse marked for other components, but none of the fuses on the side of the dash or under the hood are bad unless I am missing a fuse set somewhere else hidden.. Thanks for any info you can provide... Indi

Check the fuse block under the rear seat, it might be in there. There definitely should be a fuse marked for it. They may use another word for it instead of sunroof but it should be identifiable as being for the roof.

The chart in the engine compartment fuse box also shows the rear seat fuses. IIRC they are shown in ( ).

Oh Yeah! Duh!... I forgot about the fuses under the back seat... I found the dead fuse there and replaced it... It now works, The roof switch seems a little faulty though, I purchased another one to replace it also. The fuse must have blown when I chopped into the wires it probably shorted out.... Thanks! for all your help. Sometimes one overlooks, or in my case forgets the simplest things and needs another to point them out You guys are the best!... Thank you!. Indi

Very often we overlook the simple things...at least you were not paying someone $100 an hour to find your trouble...that would be painful. Glad you found it and fixed it after all.

BMW puts fuse blocks under the passenger seat in their cars and doesn't even mention them in the owner's manual...now that's what I call frustrating!

Glad you got it working. When you say the switch is "faulty" is it working but just moving in stages, about 3" at a time? If so, it just needs to be re-synchronized.

No, the innards of the switch are sloppy the spring inside is very loose it sticks in one position if you don't push it back to home. There is no tension at all on the switch to pull it back to home/center. It is totally loose and sloppy. I will be getting a different one soon...... Indi

Thank you! I will tear it apart once I have the new part. I can imagine it's near impossible to put them back together once apart... Thanks for all the pointers.. You guys are much appreciated.. God bless you and your families... Indi.
