Oil in Air Filter and under my car
I just had the vacuum pump on my 1982 300TD rebuilt because it was sucking oil. Recently I've noticed that after driving a long time, there is oil under my car in several different spots. I jacked up the car to look under it and saw that there was oil everywhere. I began looking through the forums for help and saw a few threads about if you have oil in your air filter/housing that it could be a faulty oil drain gasket. Sure enough I have oil and chunky stuff in my air filter and its housing. Can someone please suggest some things to check out before bringing it back to my mechanic?? Thanks!

Check the oil/air separator. Ii uses "O" rings to seal at the air cleaner and the oil pan. Also Dave Morrison, IIRC did a write up on replacing the check valve that is at the oil pan/block connection. Also check the turbo oil drain as well.

Also, if you have an early vacuum pump, it can put oil into your air filter if the diaphragm is leaking. The early pump has a clear plastic line from the pump to the top of the air cleaner. Is it possible the pump diaphragm was not actually replaced?
