Time to kill the gremlin. I say get a used mount first, then save up for a new one.

It will be very difficult to inspect but here are a few things noted about the old diff. mount I removed if it will help you locate a good one.
1)the sides of the rubber had sort of a "wrinkle"
2)the bottom, inside of the "V" was shiny from where the inner portion had rubbed.

To remove, be sure you have a jack under the differential! In fact, make sure some of the vehicle weight is on it. (I had a jack under mine, with about 1/8" clearance...realized later, and it scared the crap out of me when the differential slammed down against it.)

The number one seller at salvage yards is.....brake pads! can you believe it?

All I was saying was you will spend time/effort to inspect and remove and still pay for the mount....$15-20? For a few dollars more you can get a new one overnighted. If you can't get your hands on $40, we could all chip in and buy you one a new one....you got a paypal account?

Rear diff mount replaced. That wasnt my problem apparently. It was wrinkled oily and look like it was on its way out (shiny spot and all).

Still have thud thud thud. Rear Axle? Most noticeable under heavy torque 1st gear and left hand turns. Sounds eminating from right hand side (but rear). This is in the 85. Annular or Homokinetic. The car I pulled the mount from had decent looking axles with intact non cracked boots.
