I've been screwing around with the IP and glow plugs even though the real problem was determined a week ago: The engine has low compression. If I get back to basics I must realize that even if the IP is screwy or the GPs are bad, replacing both will not increase my compression, nor will trying new fuel.
The bad compression is either from bad rings, bad valves, incorrect valve adjustments or a combination of the three. Based on an increase of only 20-30 lbs on 3 cylinders, and a 100 lbs increase in one cylinder when I introduce oil into the cylinders, and the fact that even the oil, all of the cylinders are between 200 and 260, I think there is a possibility that I have one worn cylinder and the other three may be low due to incorrect valve clearance. I am going to forget about screwing around with the other stuff and do a valve adjustment tomorrow. If I am right, I may end up with a car that has 3 good cylinders to start on, which should be good enough to keep the car running until the bad cylinder gets oiled up and works as much as it can. If a valve adjustment doesn't do it, I'll be tearing it down with the hopes that the pistons are good and I can use them in a re-sleeve. It think the option of parting the car out is off the table because there has been little interest in my "parts" post. I've had several people review the post but no responses to it, which leads me to believe that I don't have the parts people want most: An engine and a manual trans. Thanks everyone, for all your help.
