cruise control arm fell off steering column
It must have happened awhile ago. When I bought the car I didn't think it had cruise. When I pulled up carpets to clean, there it was! Can this be fixed without too much hassle? 82 300DT

You probably need to replace the switch assembly:
http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=1CQ0J3JZ424V11UXSX&year=1982&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=P&part=Cruise+Control+Switch However, the cruse control in these can be a little "finicky" and they often need the amplifier rebuilt/replaced. Don't be too surprised if you replace the switch and you still need an amplifier. |

Mine was broke when I bought the 82 300D. I got the arm from a junker, hooked it up, and all worked fine. It's been 7 years, but if I remember correctly I didn't have to remove wheel, column, etc. I am pretty sure I just weaseled it in through the hole it came out of to both remove the broken stub and install the new (used) one. I remember it being a tight squeeze, and was elated at how easy it was. I might be full of crap - memory ain't what it used to be, but I am pretty sure that is how it went.

You do not need to remove wheel. There is a rubber piece that pulls away, two screws hold on the combo switch. The cruise arm slides out of combo switch. I have one that came out of my '82. The cruise did not work, but I don't know why.
