Wow, is that a 240 TD?

Yup, it sure was. Just had to share something I'd never seen before.

Someone had mentioned one a long time ago on this forum but I never thought I'd ever see one. I was cruising down the four lane and saw a green 123 series approaching from the rear and when it passed me I did a double take when I saw the 240TD emblem on the back. A green 240TD wagon!

It turned off about a mile down the road and was gone.

Please excuse my excitement but I just couldn't help myself!

Thanks, I feel better now!

Weird thing is that the only W123 I saw in France was in a boneyard (and that includes 5 days on the ground in Paris). A zillion Smarts but no old E-class. Saw two 123s (a 280CE and a unidentified sedan) in Amsterdam.

Finland was full of them...and, a 240TD too.

It wouldn't be that bad to drive either. Just like a regular 240 with a couple of passengers.

That wagon W115 is not made from MB. There was at that time a few coach maker that made 115, 116 and even 108 into wagons. The first factory wagon was the W123 in 77 or 78.

Rleo where were you in Paris? The following picture was taken last 13th july in the 13eme arrondissement; a nice 250L

240td in my neck of the woods

I stumbled across a 240td about a month ago in Rhode Island. It had around 120kmiles on it and appeared to have been federalized. It was Db568, signal red, and had a four speed manual. No air, no sunroof, manual windows and a third row seat(cloth of course!). The car had sustained some minor rear end damage and had the typical rust. With that said, the red paint still shines and my first reaction was how can I room in the driveway for another wagon? I am not a red car guy, I think it is so overdone for the most part, but for some reason 123s look great that way to me!

Has he been driving that blue 240TD? I remember it being for sale in Austin, and I almost made the journey to buy it. What kind of shape was it in?

Right, I thnk Binz was the name of the coach house that did those conversions.

We had an apartment in the 11th arrondissement, on Rue de la Roquette, a stone's throw from Place de la Bastille. There 24 June to 29 June. Then we were forced to go south to Le Creusot and spent 10 days on the Canal du Centre eating cheese, croissant beurre and drinking wine. It was terrible.

You were there for Bastille Day?

I loved France and everyone I met was friendly and pleasant to be with...except the guard at the SNCF station in Chalon sur Saône who spoke sternly to me (en Francais) when I stepped off the platform while trying to get a better picture of the TGV.
