1982 300d Blowing fuse#1

Hi guys

I have got an electircal gremlin. a few days ago when i drove over a rough segment of road, the instrument panel lights flickered and then went out. i checked the fuse box and as i had suspected, the fuse had blown. It turns out that it was Fuse # 1 which controls the instrument panel lighting along with the right tail light among other things. Well i replaced the fuse and the lights came back on. everything was fine until a couple of days later when the instrument panel lights went out again. I replaced the fuse again and this time the lights went out within a minute.

so i have got a short circuit.

my question is, can any of of you suggest where can i start looking for the problem

will appreciate any pointers !
