Question 05' 211 E320 CDI A/C problem:Passenger air cold drives warm-WTF?

Had the car for about a month now, this is a very annoying problem to deal with. Passengers side is cold and the drivers side blows worm air.
Took it to the dealler and was told by the service advisor who BTW didn't even bother looking at my car first that it will take $400-$500 to start diagnosing and then they will go from there
got a feeling this can turn out to be a bottomless pit! So I walked away slowly
I am mechanically savy and always fix my cars but need some help from you guys on this one. Anyone with similar problem?

In W210 models is fairly common when low on freon.

Question is....WHY is it low.

Using CCU get your actual values.

Start engine, AC at 72f, press and hold *rest* for 5 seconds, toggle thru first 8 items using left or right auto buttons and report results.

Will do that when I get home and report the findings.
I have already thought of the low refrigerant possibility, bought 18 oz self refill kit of R-134a with oil, with a pressure gauge. Hooked it up to the larger diameter pipe as per instructions. With the engine running and A/C at full the gauge showed around 35psi, and was in the blue, I filled it a bit more to 40psi. According to the gauge 40 psi would be full capacity?
Please let me know if I should fill it any further, and if I have done everything correctly.

No. You're flying blind. You need more data first and then a set of gauges and/or a full evacuation/refill to confirm proper levels.

Just realized that you were talking about the values on the A/C control LCD display which I do not have, I just have the main FFS display on the spedometer. Would it show up there?

What do you mean....

you don't have a display associated with your heating and air conditioning system? Unless you have a care made for foreigh distribution, it has to be there.

It almost sounds to me like the "duo-valve" is stuck (if that car still has one). It's a double sided valve located on the passenger's side near the suspension tower behind the partition in the engine compartment. If you set the controls to AUTO and set the desired temp 5 deg. or so above ambient, you should be able to touch the duo-valve and feel it clicking. It has two cylinder's sticking up which are coils that operate the valves. You should be able to feel each side clicking independently. Try setting the sides of the climate control to different temps and you should notice a slight difference in the rate of cycle between the left and right sides.

I would do this with the car cold or barely warmed up because the duo-valve on my car gets bloody hot enough to burn your fingers.

Have you checked the operation of your heater valve? I don't know where it is on a CDI, but it's typically near the firewall. If one side of it is hot while you're in AC mode, then you know it's not functioning properly.

Your car is already out of warranty??? It must have more than 50K miles on it? If so you might strongly consider an aftermarket warranty...I'd almost never say they are a good deal but on an '05 CDI it would probably pay for itself in short order if you are not mechanically inclined and willing to get your hands (very) dirty.

I just re-read your original post - if yours is really blowing "worm" air it might need a vet more than a tech...I thought it was blowing warm air.

Must be...

that the nav display does double duty to display heat/AC options and data. See your owners manual. Sounds like your car could be low on A/C refrigerant.

Take it to a good A/C shop and have them check it. The $400-500 number from the dealer stinks. Unless the car is in warranty, go elsewhere.

If the car is low on refrigerant, you may have a leak in the system which will have to be corrected or you will keep loosing the refrigerant.
