05' 211 E320 CDI A/C problem:Passenger air cold drives warm-WTF?

Had the car for about a month now, this is a very annoying problem to deal with. Passengers side is cold and the drivers side blows worm air.
Took it to the dealler and was told by the service advisor who BTW didn't even bother looking at my car first that it will take $400-$500 to start diagnosing and then they will go from there

got a feeling this can turn out to be a bottomless pit! So I walked away slowly

I am mechanically savy and always fix my cars but need some help from you guys on this one. Anyone with similar problem?
