The unmarked line between 80 and 120 is 100 C. I've measured it independently.

The gauge is not quite a linear scale, but its close enough. Halfway between 80 and 100 is 90, etc.

Thanks for all the help. I have decided to take our Civic instead. I am not a gambling man and do not want to take the chance on something happing to the Benz. When I get back I will have the time to give her the sweet loving care that she requires. I have ordered the vacuum pump and will change filters, fluids and acid rinse radiator when I get back. I love driving the Benz and it saddens me to have to leave her, but it is for the best in the long run. When I am back I am sure I will be looking for more advice.

Thanks for the help so far. I have done a couple of things to the car. I replaced the vacuum pump which was a pita. Would have saved hours if I would have read the posts on how to get the idler spring off. I changed the oil to Mobil 1, and did the purge. I spent close to $1000 for the pump filters and fluids.
When I did the purge the fluid pumped out of the over flow tube was just as clean as it was going in. I've read post that talk about it coming out black or dirty. Next I check the brake fluid and it looked new and very clean. I dropped the two plastic pans off the bottom of the car and the tranny is very clean. I check the oil and it looks new same with the steering fluid.
I have all of the full syn. fluids and filters to replace all. With the fluids being so clean is it worth changing out, will I get any benefits from changing? The fluids in there now are low miles but around 4-5 years old.
The car does have the green antifreeze in it, which is strange because all work has been done by a MB dealer so they stuck the wrong stuff in it. It is very clean, but green. I got some Zerex 05 and citric flush and will run that today.

Yesterday was the first time that I have changed the oil on a diesel. I know they say they hold a lot of oil, but until you see it for your self you don't believe it. I found out the hard way when I pulled the plug and it was like the energizer bunny and kept going and going. After the oil pan I had filled up it quickly became a big mess. Time to get a bigger oil pan and more rags.
