Question Fuel injector socket size?

I'm getting ready to pull the injectors out of my 1987 300D. Instead of spending a small fortune on a specialty socket, I'd like to see if I can find a generic one that will serve the purpose.

The only threads I was able to find on this topic were for the earlier models. Do the injectors on my car take a 27mm socket as well? And if so, how deep does it have to be? If someone has a socket that has worked for you, I'd sure appreciate it if you could give me the measurements.

Thanks,
Dan

I am pretty sure the 60x injector bodies are the same as the 61x ones. and if so, use a 12point deep 27mm or 1-1/6" socket, it is not the correct socket, but it fits past the return nipples.

Question

I read in another thread that a standard deep dish socket may not be deep enough - that it needs to be "extra deep". Can anyone tell me how deep their 27mm injector removal socket is?

Thanks!

I purchased a standard deep well 27m 12 point socket from sears and it is deep enough for my 617 injectors. Don't have a measurement though...

I just bought the Lowes Kobalt brand 1 1/16" deep socket and it works. It was about $8.

I used one I bought at advance auto parts, whatever their brand is. It's just a standard deep 1-1/16 socket, but not sure of actual depth. Something of note though: It didn't fit at first, so I bought one from ************** website thinking it was a specialty socket. When it arrived, it was no different than the generic one I bought first.
I had to bend the return nipples in just slightly (maybe half of a mm) to get the sockets to fit on the injectors. (The return hoses still fit on them)
This may be where the misconception of a "special" socket is coming from.

I got mine at Sears

Just under $12.00. It's the biggest 27mm they have (12 pt.)

The socket I use is a Craftsman 1 1/16 in deep part# 47532.
The inside depth look like 2 11/16 in.
I haven`t had any trouble getting the injectors off. I have taken off a
lot at the local Pick N pull. sometimes the rubber lines don`t just pull
off and I cut them off. even with the small bit of hose stuck on both
nipples it will still work.
