Both high beams work / low beams don't

1985 MB 300TD (wagon)

The low beams on both my headlights quit working at the same time. High beams, fogs, and other things seem fine.

I checked the fuses they look fine. Two different fuses control each low beam. So a single bad fuse doesn't seem possible.

What could it be?

Maybe its just your low beam filaments that went out?

I would check the bulbs before anything else. YOu could have had one burned out and not realize it til the other went.

I had a bad stalk on my VW van that would make the brights not work if I hit a bump. I would be flying along then bump....darkness. Try a new bulb, then suspect the combo switch.

Ditto on the combo switch. The wrecked 85's would get caught in the middle between high and low when switching from high back to low or when going over some rough road. Definitely try the new bulbs first as they are far cheaper.
