Me too. The one I have has a hook and loop type affair on the mount that I "stick" to the carpet just behind the rear shelf. The best unitasker.

my 300TD had the mounting points for it, it originally came with one and I got a bracket from frankjnjr, just need to put it on now but seems kinda silly with nothing to go in the hole.

Yes, Halon is a major ozone depleting chemical. it is on the banned CFC list. legal to have, just not to manufacture. they are available from fire extinguisher locales in reclaimed form... $$$$$$$ for even the small ones. oh, if you have any halon extinguishers, most fire extinguisher refillers will pay big bucks for them.

I've always carried them in any car I've owned and always will. Thankfully they've never seen use on my car or anyone else's.

While the front seat location is definitely the spot for quick and easy access, I would be worried about kicking it or knocking it somehow and have the thing go off with the nozzle facing up. But then again, I'm pretty pessimistic when it comes to Murphy's Law.

I have one in my trunk. It's a small "automotive" one I bought at a Pep Boys, if I remember right. I've had it for about three years but recently I've kept myself particularly aware of it's location, since I've been fiddling with things in the dash/console, and am overly paranoid about things spontaneously catching on fire because I bumped something electrical.

I'd like to add a CO2 extinguisher as well, in case of a runaway.

That said you might want to have one within arm's reach Me, if it can be accidentally triggered, it will.

Christ, today I actually had to use my fire extinguisher. the funny thing is, it wasn't the car that went up in flames.

I was trying to take a nap in my room when all of a sudden our doorbell began to ring furiously. My dad rushed to the door and from my window I could hear one of our neighbors yell "YOUR SIDEYARD IS ON FIRE!" I put some pants on, grabbed my keys, ran out to my car, and grabbed the fire extinguisher from my trunk. I went to the sideyard to find my dad with a ditzy hose, not doing much in the way of extinguishing our flaming trash cans. I blasted the hot spots and got it down a little, but there were some paint cans that continued to burn and re-ignite the parts I had put out. I asked my dad what happened; he, being a moron, threw hot coals into the trash. Luckily, the fire didn't spread to the house. Our next door neighbors brought out their hoses and we managed to put it out before the fire truck got there. Scary!!!

I am getting my friend in Germany to send me an extinguisher for my W126. Let me know if you want me to order one for you too...

I do not know the price or the shipping yet, but I think it should be reasonable.

The extinguishers might not be brand new -- he might have to look in the local bone yards for them and the brackets.

Let me know on this thread (my PM inbox over 100% full)

Thank you

New member of the OEM fire extinguisher club!

Thanks to Mercedesshop member Carson's notification, on the parts thread, and my just happening to be there at the right time and place, I nabbed this one with a bare 18 seconds left in the ebay auction.

Looks like an OEM Mercedes unit off an R107, complete with the bracket.

Thank you

I added you to the list I am compiling for him. As soon as he can get over to the local bone yard, he will start pulling parts for us. I still need to get the price from in (in Euros) and how much the shipping to the US will be. I figure he will fill one or two big boxes and ship everything to me so it can all get through customs. Then I can repackage and FedEx the stuff around the country.

I will let you know as soon as I get more information.

Regards,

Joe
