First & foremost, I want to thank everyone for sharing your knowledge here at MBShop. When information is posted, it is available for future use by using the search function; this effectively makes these forums a *tremendous* repository of information for those wanting to learn about the functioning of their vehicles.

I think that the professional technicians as well as other enthusiasts are extraordinarily generous with sharing their expertise with others. At the same time, it is a privilege that should not be abused by asking questions that have already been answered. This is a matter of mutual respect.

I feel that people should make good use of the search function to look for previous postings on the particular subject matter that they are interested in. If the information is not there, then by all means, go for the gold.

I hope that this does not come off as a rude sort of posting – that is *absolutely* not the intention. I just would like to find ways to perpetuate the interest and contributions of people involved here, and I believe that fresh questions and concepts are much more interesting to those that provide the answers, as well as those that read these forums.

searching?

Hello to all,
I agree with you, we must minimalize the repeat questions or as time goes on the search function with be to vague and time consuming. However I am a newbie to this forum and using the search forum can be difficult because (correct me if I am wrong) the search line only will pull down one search word at a time. This makes it hard to find the "meat" and too many "potatos"are found. any help or sugestions would be great thank you for your time.CD in SC

You are absolutely right. Way to many carbohydrates are unearthed with each query – us meat eaters need more protein. The search function used in this web site is very limited in its scope; this is very unfortunate considering the vast amount of information here.

I would like to suggest to the owners & web master of this site that there are several improvements that can be made, although I have no clue as to the expense or complexity involved.

One improvement would be a function that allows for Boolean language searches, or an ‘advanced search’ option for those not familiar with Boolean logic. Another improvement would be options (in two check boxes): to have the entire thread come up as it does now (when selected from the results page), OR, to have JUST the posting(s) that contains the selected words come up. When using the ‘Posting Only’ method, an option (button) should be on the resultant pages to THEN show the entire thread, if the post seems to match what is sought. These two improvements will increase the usability tremendously.

P.S.: Hey guys, just think about the return on investment. The more that people are able to work on their cars effectively, the more they will need parts from the Parts Shop or Fastlane. Ease of use will also engender more loyalty, further increasing the likelihood of purchases through the site. And lets be honest, everyone needs to make a living, and providing this site is an invaluable resource for everyone. There should not be ANY grumblings from people out there about the intentions of this site, philanthropic as it may be.

What's the single best oil for my diesel? Is the synthetic worth it? Should I change over after 453,000 miles on Quaker State 5w-30 changed every 15k miles?

(hehehe)
