search problems

Doesn't work for me either. This new software is awful and not user friendly at all. Wish there was some way to get back to the old format. The colors look good, but unfortunately that is not soothing enough when you have a problem.

Neither for me... the forum is almost useless without search.

The email notification for subscribed threads isn't working for me. It was OK when MBshop came online briefly earlier this week. When it came back the second time, no dice.

Perhaps they're still tweaking it. Although I do like it for the most part, just takes some getting used to.

just could not resist to voice my opinion on this thread. All that I read is "It does not work for me"...guys, what do you mean? it does not work? Pls be more specific so that the people that can do something about it can be useful. I have used the search and it works well for me.

any error message that you get? can you describe the behaviour?

For both the general search and the "search this forum" panels. any entry I search on gets a white internet error page of "Cannot Display this Page" Kind of like the old "error 404" page.

Give it a try.

Question Need more info...

I was doing some fine tuning on the server last night and today.
Please try the search function again.

NOTE-
MAKE SURE ALL WORDS IN YOUR SEARCH ARE AT LEAST 3 LETTERS IN LENGTH. The search function will not work otherwise. Don't use "a", "at" , "to", etc in your search.

If you still have problems, please answer the following:

1) What operating system are you using? (Win2k, WinXP, MacOSX, etc)

2) What browser are you using? (IE, Netscape, Mozilla, etc)

3) What errors are you getting?

4) Do you always get the error or just sometimes?

Thanks,

Bill,

I can no longer do a search either. I am running Windows XP and Internet Explorer. I receive the Cannot Display this Page message everytime that I have tried to search. I have tried the search pull down box and the new box that is always on the screen. I have also used the advanced search to no avail. Hope this helps.

Tom

I'm also running XP and IE6. I just did a search using 4 words and it didn't work at all. I removed one of the 4 words - thus searching on 3 words (all of which had 4 or more letters) - and it worked just fine.

I've not retested to confirm but see if it works for you with 3 or less words.

I have tried one, two, three and four words and still get the Error message page. I have been gone for a week and never had any problems with the search function on the old forum format.

thanks for helping,
Tom

Unhappy Search problems

Make sure of the following:
- no word is less than 3 letters
- no word can be more than 20 letters

Try doing a simple search for the word "mercedes" and see if the search function returns anything.

If these search problems continue, I will take the Shop Forum down for a day and rebuild the search table.

Able to duplicate problem

I was able to duplicate the search problem.

The search index will have to be rebuilt.
I'll take the Shop Forum down sometime for about 8 hours and fix it.

Did a search with "mercedes". The following error message has been returned, as it always did whenever I used search: "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/search.php” because it could not load any data from this location."
I use OSX.3.5 with latest Safari 1.2.3 (v125.9), however I get similar error messages with Explorer 5.2 for Mac or Mozilla 1.7.
Regards, Bruno
