An "exhausting" question...
Folks,
I'm considering upgrading the exhaust on the E300 some time in the future. Probably something custom. Currently the exhaust exits down, inside the rear pan. I'd like something kind of like an AMG E55 with a dual chrome tip straight out the back. Will this cause the rear end of the trunk to soot up? Is that the purpose of the stock turn-down? To reduce sooting? Thanks for the insight...

No idea about the "turning down". My wife's TDI gets the sooty bumper, but mu 300D does not. Both have the tips turned down.

I had a Remus Exhaust on my old 190D. It "sooted" up the whole rear end of the car.
I just installed a Brabus Exhaust system on my E300DT. It does not get any soot on the back of my car. Neither of my cars have/had visible black smoke coming from the tailpipe. I think it probably has to do more with the angle of the exhaust tips, and the aerodynamics of the car.
