[quote=dwayneb;1615073]I have a 75 Triumph TR6 that I want to put a diesel into. Alas MB diesels are too large to fit into the engine compartment. VW diesels would be great but they are front wheel drive.
Why would you want to put a diesel into your TR6 - is the engine shot? I've owned my '74 TR6 since new and have rebuilt the engine once - it was easy and the parts were reaonable. Owning two diesels and aTR6 I can't imagine so significantly downgrading my TR with a diesel - not to mention slowing it down. |
JESCO in Ceres,Ca just south of Modesto, Ca handles Nissan Diesel parts,
and many other diesels as well. They have a 240Z with the Maxima LD28 6cyl Diesel installed, looks factory. and runs good. little big for a TR6. The SD22 in my Datsun weighs 475#, might be a little heavy. also you need to think about the heighth of the engine, valve cover to oil pan. too tall, add a lift kit:D. www.jescoweb.com 3437 Railroad Ave Ceres, Ca. 95307 209-537-5057 Charlie |
This engine is sized about right, but adapting it to a transmission might be just a little tricky :D

Find you a 4 cyl from a Izusu I-Mark or Pup Diesel. They were shallow engines, parts are still good.

What about the 616 or the 601? Are those too big?
BMW also made a diesel for the 524TD (M21D24 engine) back in the '80s It is a six, but is only 2.4L and it has a turbo. Jeep also used the Perkins 192 I4 in the CJ5 However, I would seriously think about putting a diesel in a TR6 The car was slow enough with the gasser in it. I would look for a Cosworth 4 cyl. engine to put in her instead ;) |
A swap that I've seen in the past is the aluminum block Olds 215/Rover 3.0 V-8 into the TR-6.
At the time, the limiting factor was finding a GM 4-speed to bolt up to the Olds engine or the difficulty of finding a wrecked Rover. Yes, it is basically the same engine they put in the TR-7. Using the four-barrel Olds version, you would almost double your horsepower and lighten the front end of the car by about 200 pounds. So far among diesel options, I like the Quantum. |
Too bad this thread is so old! The Nissan diesel was used in Jeeps and Scouts so parts are available still.
