Off the wall question
I have a 75 Triumph TR6 that I want to put a diesel into. Alas MB diesels are too large to fit into the engine compartment. VW diesels would be great but they are front wheel drive.
1st question: Does anyone know of a 5 speed rear wheel transmission that will bolt up to a VW diesel engine? 2nd question: Anyone got any suggestions as to a 4 cylinder diesel and 5 speed rear wheel transmission setup that might fit and that I can get parts for? I have an 81 Isuzu 1.8 diesel, but can't find parts for it. |

I know there are people who put the 1.9 tdi into all kinds of stuff, check stuff for suzuki samurai's thats a very popular one and you may be albe to use the transmission out of it, from what I have seen it has a divorced transfercase. and Im not 100% sure but I think most VW bell housings are the same so you may be able to use 1.6 also

That would probably work in the TR6. IIRC the engine in a TR6 slants also.

Chevette Diesel
I owned a Chevette Diesel with a Izuzu diesel and a 5 spd. Ford also used this engine in small tractors. You might try there for parts.

Perkins makes them.

Small diesels, that is. Onan and Yanmar do as well. |

The volvo diesel of the eighties used a six cylinder vw diesel with a four speed and overdrive stick tranny. That would be a very rugged tranny. Maybe the later diesel will bolt to it too. I am sure the eighties four cylinder deisel would bolt to it too.
I don't know from experience but am conjecturing. Really though you should keep the tr stock and get a cheap diesel to tool around in. Tom W |
Isuzu diesels are used in several marine engines and generator sets. If you can find a copy of "Boats & Harbors" you will find suppliers advertising Isuzu equipment.Ask around boat yards and marinas for a copy of the "yellow sheet" as that newspaper is commonly called.

There should be plenty of forklift shops that stock parts.
