How to tell if Turbo is out? 83 300SD
1983 300 SD 304,000 miles
First, let me say that this forum and this parts place has been absolutely awesome. One of the most beneficial uses of the internet that I have ever come across - and some of the most helpful people too! I have only had the car just over a month. How do I tell if the turbo is working or not? Are there any tell tale signs? Since I never drove it prior, I have no reference point. I thought I see if I can figure this out, cuz if I need to work on it, then I might as well do it while I do the first 3 items on my DIY to do list below... My other DIY to do list is: Replace AirFilter Replace AirFilter Bracket Install "Anti-Vibration" kit for above Fix Visor lights Take out rear ceiling cover and reshape with metal rib Ponder on changing stock vaccumm stuff to the recommended bypasses covered in this forum Everything else is original and working (crossing fingers!). I love this car! Thanks! Robert |

With the engine running, stick you finger in the turbo and see if your finger is still on your hand when you pull your hand out of the turbo....
Ok all jokes aside, put a boost gauge on it, thats the only 100% way youll know your turbo is producing boost.
