300sdl fan&cooling
my fan shroud somehow got mangled (the left side is deformed and no longer stays flush against the radiator) and prevents the fan from spinning. i've had to drive at least 200 miles in these conditions. is this going to completely mangle my fan clutch? i cant see any means of removing the shroud short of pulling the radiator out of the car.
if i need a new fan clutch, i'm going to try & install the 606 plastic fan & fan clutch: less mass is good! rektide |

Hey rektide,
Since this post is kinda old you might have already solved the problem. Once I had a similar problem with my shroud getting stuck and not coming out. I ended up cutting the top and bottom of the shroud and pulled it out in two pieces. I figured since I was going to have to replace it either way it couldnt hurt to bad. I have no idea about whether it is hurting the clutch. I would assume if the clutch wanted to move then it would eat through any plastic that got in its way. Finaly as I recall just to remove the shroud correctly you have to unattach it, then place it over the fan and let it sit there, then you unscrew the fan can clutch (a 5 or 9 MM allen) then remove the fan/clutch combo then pull the shroud off. Sorry aobut the late reply, Matt
