I guess we don't have too many military people on here? When I was going to Frankfurt American Middle School "a while back" there were a few kids that would show up a school with symbols for a buck or two, depending on car. They explained that you could just bend the symbol back and forth for a while and it'd snap off. The preferred (and much faster) method was to just yank on it as hard as you could almost straight up and you could snap the underpinnings and pull the whole piece out. Then it was up to you to bend/cut/grind off what you didn't want.
