300D Oil Cap leak
I have a 1983 300D and it leaks oil. I thought it was leaky oil from somewhere down by the pan but it actually looks like the oil leaking from the oil cap. The gasket has never been changed and it feels hard and not very pliable. Do these gaskets need to be changed or does this sound more like an oil pressure problem?

The gasket can be changed also when you remove the cap don't turn it upside down when you set it on the air cleaner.

Try replacing the gasket in the cap, and you can also bend the tabs on the bottom of the cap a little, bend them towards the top of the cap, this will hold the cap on a little tighter.

I have replaced the gasket (the new one will be softer):

oil pressure will have no bearing on the leakage of oil on the filler cap. blow by however will indeed affect leakage. best solution is to clean out the vent tube, the oil catch can and associated tubing to the return, and get a new gasket on that cap.
