I have a 190D, 2.5 turbo. I sense that the auto trans is about to go (291,000 km, both 2/3 and 3/4 shifts are slipping badly). I see 2 choices: spending the money to get the auto box rebuilt, and converting to a manual.
There is a manual trans available locally for $100, but I have to go and see it, to determine if the donor car has the rest of the gear that I will need (shifter, clutch components, pedal assy, bell housing etc).
Has anyone done this conversion on a W201? I have read several threads, but for other models.
What I need to know is:
Where can I get a flywheel for this engine; online searches have come up with nothing. Does anyone know if the flywheel for either 2.3 or 2.6 gasser will work?
Will I have to mess around with the driveshaft length? (i.e. are auto and manual trans the same length)
Any other issues I may not have thought about. All answers appreciated.
