Drive Shaft Alignment
Dropped the ds on my 84D yesterday after seeing that the 2 pcs were not aligned. When I reinstalled it last spring when I changed the center bearing, I thought I had it lined up with the paint marks I made. But apparently, not quite. After reading FSM. 84 & 85 had factory marks on ds alignment.
I was off by about 6 splines resulting in slight vibration at 30 mph. Now, after correct alignment, no more vibration....heee haaa ![]()

I made pretty sloppy paint marks on mine when I disassembled it, and think I got them "pretty close" upon reassembly....but so far, no vibration!

Is it a given that if you are replacing the center bearing and carrier and the rear flex disk that you might as well drop the drive shaft ? If there is a simpler way, please tell me.

Yes and its no big deal. Just more bolts. You need to press the center bearing on to the ds with a decent amount of EVEN force. I think I used a 1.5" piece of metal tubing and a 5lb hammer.
