Can't find the nipple...

I just bought my first MB: a 1981 300D non-turbo.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out where the black hose that comes from the oil separator is attached to the oil pan. All of the photos and diagrams I can find show a nipple on the lower oil pan, but most are for the turbo models. I poked around with a flashlight and probed around with my fingers, but didn't find anything, so I called a friend (1982 240D non-turbo) to try to find it, but he couldn't either. We couldn't find a hole or a rough spot like something had snapped off, either.

I stuck a bolt in the end of the hose and hose-clamped it for now, because it drips oil.

The number on the airfilter housing is 0010949504, the number on the driver's side of the engine is 617 011 0901.

Any ideas on what I'm missing?

Maybe your air filter housing was a replacement off of a turbo model ???

I don't know if that makes sense or not because I have only had turbos.

I have a late 616 (82) engine sitting in the barn that I just took a look at. From that black oil separator a line goes to the intake manifold and the lower one connects to the oil pan just ahead of the motor mount. I am wondering if I cant get rid of all that when I install that engine in a "early" 240D (78), epically that air flap in the intake.

Maybe it's a new and improved boar hog...

It would make me feel a little less crazy if there weren't a nipple available, and the airfilter housing is frankensteined in... could somebody have rigged this up to get rid of oil in the filter, and just let it drip out the hose onto the ground?

If so, maybe I could rig up some sort of collection tank, and just add the oil back in the engine when it fills up? Seems sort of wasteful and hard on the earth and my driveway to just let it drip...

I'm still looking around to see what the normal set up is for a 1981 300D non-turbo.

I'm also trying to hunt down a camera...but it seems like the current housing is intact, the hose just might have nowhere to go with this oilpan...

What are the three digits after "123" on your driver's door ID tag?

123.105
123.130
123.132

Or, do you have a different number altogether?

I'm parked about 5 blocks away, but I have the numbers from the front of the engine compartment, and I find "123130__12" in the list. Does that help?

You say your car is a non-turbo.

Well, I can't find what I am looking for in the Illustrated Parts Breakdown (Russian site) but have a look at the following links and maybe that will help narrow the focus.

Big Brother seems to frown on that stuff.
