a/c shutting off
okay gentlemen!!! as you know i have 1985 300d and as usual i drive my benz to work. When i get home or work i leave the a/c switch in the on position and when i get back in the car and turn the engine on the a/c does not come on.
after a few minutes of driving the a/c turns on automatically. i was told by my parts man that the ignition switch is going bad. he said the ignition switch controls the a/c switch and when ever it did not come on, i need to move the ignition switch to the right slightly while the car is running. this should do the trick and kick the a/c on. i tried that and i had no luck. any suggestions... When you say that "the a/c does not come on," are you referring to the compressor or the fan? Or both?

You may want to test the system to see if you have a slight leak and are a little low on freon.

The '85 has a bit of a unique system as it is the first year of the Klima relay. If the compressor doesn't start immediately, it's almost certainly a fault of the Klima. Either the Klima doesn't have the proper signals (unlikely because it goes into default and does not recover until the ignition is shutoff) or the Klima, itself, is not functioning properly.
What you observe is the traditional flaky behavior of the Klima. I trust that you've confirmed that the compressor does not engage when you "don't get a/c". If not, then the aforementioned advice is not applicable. |
