w123 Cowl Drain Tube Replacement

I just replaced my cowl drain tubes. I ordered them from the local MB dealer. When they arrived I noticed I had 2 of the tubes for the right side and no left. The dealer informed me that they no longer have a different part number for the left tube. Their number system refers both the left and right Part No. to the new right tube part number.

Old numbers:

123 832 05 94
123 832 06 94

both use this new number:

123 832 36 94

I ended up cutting one of the tubes so I could rotate the gasket end and glue it together to make it fit my car. The old tubes just pull out and use no adhesive. To put the new ones in, just push it in the drain hole and work the outer lip until it's flat against the firewall.

This is SUPER easy to do and I would have tried to fix the old tubes:
#1 - IF I had both of them
and #2 - If the gasket end of the tube wasn't rotted out and crumbly

I would have sprayed them with a can of Duplicolor or Krylon Fusion black(not gloss) so they look to be the originals

The cowl area is for fresh air but also allows water to enter which needs to drain out through the tubes.

EDIT: Air enters through the cowl grills and the water drains out the tubes.

hey, it's been years since this thread was active, where does one source a cowl vent tube for w123 now? a few dealers' online parts sites have them listed as available, but after ordering and paying they come back and tell me they aren't available.
anyone have any leads?
thanks.

Those FUGLY red ones are silicone and so shouldn't rot like the originals do .

classic center says right side can be used, but neither are available, i think i'd rather try to source a used one but i wonder what hose option would work best from the hardware store

You can't just stick a bulk hose in there. The cowl drains are closed at the ends to prevent engine fumes from entering into the cowl and into the fresh air vent for the HVAC while allowing water to drip out. You'll need to some how "pinch/crimp" ends if you use bulk hose.

My thought would get a 2 inch rubber grommet and then push in a vinyl or some sort of clear plastic hose that you can heat up, bend and pinch the ends.

Hi, I'd love to buy the right tube, let me know how much, is Paypal
acceptable?
Any chance you know the part number for the cowl drain screen

UK eBay has the 123 832 06 94 but they want 28+ pounds for it and 9+pounds for the shipping.
