Hypothetically true...

I agree - hypothetically, it is possible to get much more 3,000 miles on the original tank. Simply start the car and run until warm - then drive cross country without shutting down the engine long enough for the WVO to cool. Not very practical, but would be possible to drive 3,000 miles on just the amount of fuel needed to get the engine up to operating temperature.

That being said - do I get 3,000 miles per tank of B99? No. More like 1,200 to 1,700 miles per tank as I fill up once every 4 to 6 weeks. The vast majority of my driving is on WVO once the motor is up to normal operating temperature (especially in summer when warm-up times are shorter.)

Granted, the original eBay listing was somewhat deceptive - but perhaps due to a simple lack of information more so than malice or intentional misrepresentation.

thanks for the reply,
would you have a manual that i could beg, borrow or steal,or pay for?truth is though i wouldnt steal it.
quick question,is the heated fuel filter in use while on the origional tanks fuel feed?
sounds like i could have a bad fuel filter if my thinking is correct.
for ref, i tested the 1/2 tank of unknown oil in the greasecar fuel tank, looks to be straight veg oil with no seperation at all.(fellow had a container of light cooking oil in trunk, soy product) finished filling the greasecar tank with diesel then tried the switch over when oil temp read highest(95deg,i assume f)as the temp gauge isnt declared in units(c or f)
hey by the way i consider myself a expert on the famous 3.5 l engine, if you have any questions fire um at me.

Hey, perfect!! I bought the 3.5L without prior knowledge of the rod issues, but I am now keenly aware of the potential problems. Mine now has nearly 228k miles on the original motor, so I am *hoping* that I got one of the 'good ones.'

To answer your questions as best I can:

I don't have my original manual - the guys who installed my system hijacked it from me and never gave it back. If I had it, I would gladly send it to you. Frankly, I don't think you would need it as it was not very helpful. I am pretty sure there are some newer/improved manuals in pdf format available on the web - perhaps even on some threads here.

The heated fuel filter should not be plumbed into the original diesel fuel circuit - it should only be filtering WVO. Depending on where the return is looped, it may be getting some diesel in it while in purge mode, but I believe that is alright. If it is hesitating while running on WVO, the obvious first thing to check is that fuel filter.

I think you are correct about the WVO temps being F not C. The digital gauge in the eBay photos looks like the original Greasecar one and I am almost certain they are measured in F. That being said, if your WVO is only at 95F, it is not hot enough to be burning properly - or the gauge is inaccurate. If you have a digital infrared thermometer, it would be wise to check for accuracy.

I'll definitely keep you in mind - and please do the same if you have advice for dealing with my rod-bender! If you have any questions, let me know - I've been driving on WVO with this car for about 18 months now and (knock on wood) I've had only limited problems. Frankly, the car runs better now after 18 months of hot WVO and B99 than it did when I bought it!

rusty and cervan

well its for sure that i cant find any tech data on the installation or maintenance instruction for the greasecar kit.sorry to say but companies that withold their information in this world are short for the stay.
cervan, i ran the car fax on this car and was convinced that it wasnt a buy until i spotted the #17 head and just added up what i was getting, i have a project to see how many different types of fuel i car operate the diesel on and this one gives me options.i figured for sure that the engine was shot but now feeling real good with just the injector issue.
anyone, is there a greasecar kit manual on the net?? i am not very good finding that info.

Greasecar Manual

Larry --

Have you gotten a Greasecar manual yet? I should have one shortly that I can copy for you, but in the meantime, you might try http://www.greasecar.com/flashtour.cfm. It's kind of an overview of the major components. Just double click on the item you want to look at and it will show you. Click on the little car in the upper right corner of the screen to get back to the main menu and look at another component. Wandering their website http://www.greasecar.com/ will probably give you a lot of helpful info.

Sad new owner of a no-longer-running 1991 350SD (no, guys, I didn't forget the "L" -- there were 895 SDs imported that year)

I don't think it sold - or at least the buyer or seller never exchanged feedback.

Larry bought it!

You're not reading all the posts -- Larry said he bought it, he's got it running, and is now looking for a Greascar manual.
