Talking 300SDL Authentic BOV sound

I have heard discussions on people putting blow off valves on the turbo, just for the noise. It has no actual performance increase, that I know of.

I have however discovered by swapping out the stock air filter, not permanently, but with an advaced auto parts air filter, you can hear the turbo chirp, at least on my car you can.

I wouldn't recommend leaving the aftermarket air filter on though, many discussions why you shouldn't, but it is fun to ride beside people, stomp it and let the turbo scream in their car.

I have also removed a bunch of unnecessary EGR vacuum, also, but you might not have to.

Anyways, I just thought this might be an interesting topic, rather than me rambling on about the downs of the vehicles and random questions.

Thanks for all comments, opinions, or thoughts!!

What's wrong with an Advance filter? Not a K&N or anything... Half the filters on my car are from Advance. Isn't it the same as an original? Close enough?

Probably nothing, a filter is a filter.

Thats called surge. All of the 617's with a T3 do it, its just the stock air filter muffles it very well.

blowoff valve? diesel? wtf?

besides the silliness of wanting that sound coming out of your diesel, theres nothing to "blow off"- no throttle = no backpressure. even if you installed a bov you wouldnt get that sound. thank god.

You probably would get some noise since there is pressure in the manifold. But it wouldn't do you any good; in fact it will actually slightly hurt your performance because the boost will drop more rapidly when you let off.

there may be some manifold pressure, but isnt the purpose of a bov to vent manifold pressure when the turbo is suddenly dead-heading against a closed throttle? i dont think i could dead-head the turbo in my 617- unless i just broke the camshaft and all my intake valves were closed. course, a blow off wont do me much good then
if you want an entertaining read, head over to tdiclub.com and find one of many threads about the ricer who just bought a TDI and starts talking bov

The puralotor and the like airfilters are crap. Probably ok for a non turbo.
