Thats a rare boat, they made those out of just about every material. If I remember correctly you could get them in wood, aluminum, steel, and fiberglass at one point.

The 427's are gas hogs, but all big blocks are. My grandfathers Commander had 454's that burned about 20gph per hour each. You could actualy watch the fuel consumption increase on the Flowscan as the secondaries opened up.

We used to run it across the sound for lunch, back when fuel was cheaper.

What about a more modern set of Volvo's or Cummins? A couple of B series Cummins would be sweet in that boat.

Aft deck/cockpit is too shallow. Even some Perkins just won't do it. The 6V53 as set up when original is about the only milll that will actually make do. Besides, I have more familiarity with GM/Detriot Diesels as they were the only Diesels Chris Craft installed after WWII.

Mahogany = Constellations, Crusaders, Challenger
Plywood = Cavaliers
Steel/Aluminum = Roamer
Fiberglass = Commander and Catalina

Yep, its been awhile since I read up on their History. I have a couple very detailed books on Chris Craft from when it was founded to present day. I need to pick them up and re read.

Old Detriots are impossible to kill, I'm just not really found of them because they are so loud and smoke like crazy. My dads friend has been working on them for 30 years and knows them like the back of his hand. Its kind of a shame that MTU bought them out.
