Gasser to Diesel Gwagen

I am going to look over a locally 4 sale '85 Gasser Gwagen this weekend.

My interest is to convert it over to Diesel power. Aside from having to find a nice Diesel 85 donor engine,

what are the other parts of the Gwagen that I wil have to swap out to properly complete the transformation.....??

And then what is the best advice to make sure I get a good donor engine, aside from just lo mileage....

Thanks,

AA

This has been discussed a lot on the pointedthree forum. In particular there was an extensive discussion of member hipine's diesel conversion a while back.

What are your goals for the conversion? The original M110 is a good engine, just not very economical. But a G is never going to be an economical vehicle anyway.

Thanks, I never saw this forum so signed up and now witing for my password to be emailed so I can search his threads..........

BTW I checked it out this morning and the owner will have to let this go for 4500 - 5500. THe head gasket needs replacing. There is quite a bit of Northeastern rust underneath.
The frame has alot of underside rust, the drivers floorboard is rusted badly, there is also surface rust through on the drivers side to the rear of the drivers door, and some by the rear drivers side tail ight, and also at one of the corners of the windshield with a slight leak coming in.
I couldn't start it up today because the battery was dead, but plan on going back tomorrow with a little more time to look it over.

I am figuring if I can get it for 5k, and put 2 k into the engine conversion, and 2 k into the body cosmetics I have a fairly nice 85 Gwagen for around 10K...........The gass engine on this is the 280GE with just under 80,000 original mles.
