Replacing Door Weatherstrip

Has anyone done this? I'd like to rplace mine (on all doors of my 1980 300TD).

Is the weatherstrip glued on or pops in and out? I may take the strip from a parts car if it just pops out.

It tucks into a slot around the door frame. No glue required.

That sounds like a project I'm capable of doing correctly.

I think on a W123 you need some clips and you do need some adhesive around the check strap.

You do need glue and clips...

Howdy- I've done these on a W123. You will need 6 clips per door I believe. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive from AutoDrone. To get the rubber around the check strap you will have to unfasten the clip from the pin on the hinge, tap the hinge pin out, and move the strap out of the way. I think I used a needle nose to get the clip off and then used a small nail to drive out the pin from underneath (put tape around the hinge if you don't want to scratch up the paint). Once I got the head of the pin up a little, I used my side cutters on the sides of the pin (like a pickle fork) and tapped it out the rest of the way. The glue is really messy and light bodied so wear gloves and clean up excess immediately. The pins are hard to remove so just cut them out with a pair of side cutters. You might also find that the channel at the bottom of the door is rusted out. Treat it with some kind of sealant (unless you have a bunch of money and can cut and weld) and carfully use what's left to hold the rubber in place. You don't have to glue every section, some places it does just pops in. I did find that it was so much thicker than the old trim that I could hardly close the door. I have seen in posts where people readjust the door. I just waited a few months (months!) until it kind of shrunk down and closed better. It did make things a little quieter and less drafty I think.
